Joshua 13
Hey New Life,
There will only be one more weekly devo after today! It has been a great blessing to go through portions of Scripture together outside of Sunday worship! Our Daily Bible passage for today comes from Joshua 13.
We are in the portion of the book where God is telling Joshua to divide the Promised Land among the tribes. Land was life back then. This was the way God provided for His people. That's why every 50 years in the Year of Jubilee (Leviticus 25), the land was restored back to the tribes according to these divisions in Joshua. It was a way for God to redeem and restore the poor and the needy.
There are two things that are interesting about our passage. First, Joshua has not conquered the whole land yet. But God is telling him to divide it as if the land has been given already. Second, the Levites have no inheritance. In v. 33, we see that the Lord is their inheritance.
We have not received the fullness of our inheritance in the kingdom of heaven yet. But in the same way as these Israelites, it is ours. God's promise is to bring us to completion and to keep us till then. And just like the Levites, the Lord is our inheritance. He is ours, and we are His.
This is all made possible through Jesus. Christ bled, died, and rose again to guarantee heaven for us. We do not live in defeat but in victory over sin and death. We live in hope, knowing that God is our portion and inheritance forever.
Let us live in this victorious hope of God's promise this week!
In Christ,
Pastor Tim
