Psalm 118
Hey New Life,
It is the last day of the year! And I love how our Daily Bible ushers us to look at Psalm 118. This was Martin Luther's favorite psalm, and it contains one of the most quoted Old Testament passages in the New Testament (v. 22). It contains glimpses of the resurrection (v. 17), and it beckons us to praise in light of our salvation.
It was sung during the Feast of Tabernacles and the Passover. It was even sung during Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Some churches read and meditate on this psalm as they celebrate the Lord's Supper.
It moves from a call to worship (vv. 1-4), confession of the Lord's salvation (vv. 5-18), and praise and thanksgiving (vv. 19-29).
Let us take a moment today and meditate on this psalm. See the ways that this psalm points to the truth that God has redeemed us in Christ and has given us a hope of the resurrection. And lastly, in light of our salvation, may we sing a song of praise and thanksgiving for His steadfast love endures forever!
May this be your foundation for 2025 and beyond! Happy New Year!
In Christ,
Pastor Tim
