2 Kings 8:16-29
Hey New Life,
What a gift it was on Sunday to have our children lead us in response to the sermon on wisdom! We left it in our livestream for your blessing!
Our Daily Bible passage for today comes from 2 Kings 8:16-29. Here, we see the brokenness of sin and the beauty of the covenant. Up to this point in Israelite history, Judah's kings were more faithful than Israel's kings. However, in our passage, we see Jehoram do what was evil in the sight of the Lord. This leads to his kingdom falling apart (vv. 20-22) and to relationships that lead to harm (vv. 28-29).
In the same way, our sin causes our lives to fall apart. We get addicted to our idols, which leave us more depressed, hopeless, and lifeless than before. It leads to toxic relationships with people or the world around us.
But at the same time, our passage shows us the beauty of the covenant. Though Jehoram committed evil, the writer talks about God's preservation of Judah because of his servant, David (v. 19). It is because of one man's righteousness that leads to the nation's salvation.
In the same way, we cling to the beauty of the covenant that is fulfilled through the righteousness of another servant, the greater David, Jesus Christ. We are the ones who committed evil in the sight of the Lord, deserving His judgment, and yet, it is for the sake of Christ that God saves us and leads us.
How have you experienced the brokenness of sin? Is Jesus, our Redeemer, the foundation for your hope?
In Christ,
Pastor Tim
