2 Kings 12

Hey New Life,

Happy Autumn! With the fall colors and cooler weather, we are reminded of God's constancy and faithfulness. Our Daily Bible passage for this week comes from 2 Kings 12. In this passage, I want to look at two aspects: 1. The Power of Discipleship 2. The Need for Repair

First, we see the power of discipleship. We see that King Jehoash reigned righteously (but not perfectly- v. 3) for 40 years (biblical number for a full lifetime). This is because he sat under the instruction of Jehoiada, the priest. Listening to wisdom led to righteous rule. Are we being discipled in wisdom? Are we humble to listen to instruction? Are we discipling others in wisdom?

Second, we see the need for repair. Because of corrupt financial leadership, the temple was not repaired. However, Jehoash reformed the system and made the necessary repairs. The church is the temple now in Christ. We don't just make physical repairs to our BUILDING, but we make spiritual repairs to our BODY. Are there places in our church that need help and repair? If the Lord is leading you to see it, He is also leading you to minister to it. Are there sins we need to repent of and places we need to grow our faith? The Lord is bringing us to the need for repair through repentance and faith.

This is all possible through Jesus, the disciple-maker, who died to make us His disciples. He was torn down as the ultimate temple, to make us into His temple. We are to grow our faith and walk in Him because of His finished work. Let us cling to Him as we disciple and minister this week!

In Christ,
Pastor Tim
