In our passage, we see Jesus going to the Gentile lands of Tyre and Sidon. He encounters a Canaanite woman who is crying out for mercy for her daughter. She is seemingly rejected by Jesus, and the disciples beg Jesus to send her away. But she perseveres in her petition and is exalted for her faith by the end of our passage. Through this story, we see the compassion of Christ, the components of faith, and the call for mission.
