As Jesus prepared his disciples for his soon-coming death, he made the disheartening revelation that they would all fall away from him.  Peter quickly rebuffed him and assured him that he would never fall away from Jesus.  Yet, Jesus predicted that Peter would indeed fall away in dramatic fashion, publicly denying Jesus three times that very night.  This story of rejection serves as a window into Jesus’ heart for his people; though we might fall away from him, he will never fall away from us.
